As noted on my resume, I received my Masters in Medical Molecular Microbiology from the University of Nottingham . The Molecular Biology Department proved to be an ideal place for me to enhance my knowledge of cell biology, as it enabled me to study every aspect of biology at the molecular level, ranging from bacteriology to virology. My research on my dissertation, made me more interested in the potential that molecular techniques have to offer in the development of new strategies for many diseases. I then had an excellent opportunity, to work for a world leading research-based pharmaceutical company (GlaxoSmithKline),which enabled me to gain relevant scientific work experience and detailed knowledge of the pharmacology and biochemistry of many molecular target classes such as nuclear receptors, G-protein coupled receptors(GPCRs) and HCV proteases. Working in the Biochemical and Cellular Target department provided me with an understanding of intracellular signaling systems as well as an opportunity to learn new skills in molecular cloning and gene delivery techniques. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, I am specialised in the designing, constructing and validating of biological reagents for in vitro cell-based assays. The reagents are in the form of plasmids, cell lines and viruses for targets such as nuclear receptors, GPCRs, ion channels, kinases and other enzymes. Prior to this, I had worked in the Virology department in Stevenage , GSK (GlaxoSmithKline), a position that involves validating targets for HCV viral replication inhibitors. I am currently involved on a project that would require me to validate and evaluate cell lines in different formats for a certain family of receptors.
