Position Summary
Our client is about to embark on a major overhaul of their operations and corporate direction. With a management restructure under way, we are now seeking a mature, experienced and solid SVP - COO to join them on this bold journey, and to take the company to new depths.
The SVP - COO will be responsible for the safe, cost-efficient, socially and environmentally sound operation of all site operations. The incumbent will be responsible for establishing and achieving production objectives within budget, company guidelines and legal/environmental requirements.

Responsibilities
• Establishing operating policies and ensure their execution .
• Ensure the safety and health of all employees and contractors through the implementation and support of safety programs developed in conjunction with the safety department.
• Lead strong management development programs, and establish standards of performance for operating management.
• Participate in the development of hiring standards that will ensure the attainment of long-term objectives, which typify a quality organization.
• Provide a positive impact on the corporate culture, establishing a climate of open communication.
• Contribute to the development of operating policies, plans budgets and forecasts which are aggressive yet realistic, and which incorporate a commitment to the achievement of breakthrough results which benefit the entire organization.
• Optimize operational efficiency, maintaining cost control and maximizing production.
• Develop and justify for corporate and board approval all major capital expenditure requests.
• Develop and submit for approval operating plans and policies that are compatible with site and corporate goals.
• Establish realistic budgets, production plans, forecasts, and equipment justifications.
Monitor and report performance against budgeted targets in terms of production goals and costs.
• Develop a focused and integrated operating organization including the continued development of a training program. Personnel development of both staff and line positions is a major, on-going priority.
• Assure that budget goals for production and costs are safely met.
• Maintain safe, efficient operations with optimal environmental and social standards, leading by personal example, supporting safety, environmental and social development programs, ensuring proper working conditions, and through the development of effective plans, systems and procedures.
• Maintain awareness of all applicable regulations and ensure their compliance.
• Create an operating team that is focused on quality, and continuous improvement, incorporating the objectives of the project, both mine sites and corporate.
Skill Requirements:
• A degree in mining, metallurgical engineering or a closely related discipline is required. An advanced technical or business degree would be preferred.
• A minimum of 20 years experience in mining/mineral production/operations is necessary with at least 10 years experience in general management.
• Strategic Planning\ Strategic Operation Management
• A conceptual thinker who is capable of seeing the big picture, identifying appropriate strategies and translating them into action.
• Excellent business judgment combined with solid negotiation and persuasive skills.
• A shrewd operator, an astute manager with a re-engineering ability. A hands-on individual who brings an intimate knowledge of all significant aspects of the business.
• Strong commercial focus.
