This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is passionate about Dyspraxia and about making a difference in the lives of children. This driven organisation provides a full range of therapies for children with dyspraxia and is also involved with research, presentation, articles and fundraising. A speech and language therapist is sought to join an experienced team and bring passion and enthusiasm to the role. The organisation is open to either a basic or a senior grade therapist with the right kind of interest and experience.
Responsibilities:
• Have responsibility for organising, managing, planning and providing a speech and language therapy service to children with dyspraxia.
• Work closely, where appropriate, with other speech and language therapists and team members in planning and delivering the speech and language therapy service.
• Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in providing a co-ordinated, high quality service to this client group.
• Be involved, where appropriate, in planning and delivering training to parents/guardians, other health care professionals and educational staff.
• Be accountable for own professional practice.
• Maintain client records in line with current recommended practice.
• Maintain statistical information and annual returns in relation to designated caseload.
• Maintain facilities and order clinical equipment where appropriate.
• Take responsibility for time-tabling clinical and administrative tasks associated with other team members and service co-ordinators / managers.
• Ensure close working relationships with relevant disciplines and families. This will involve attendance at speech and language therapy team meetings, case conferences, family meetings and multi-disciplinary team meetings.
• Maintain close working relationships with service co-ordinators and disability service managers.
• Develop and maintain professional expertise relevant to client group, i.e. through appropriate in-service training and external training courses and through membership of professional bodies and special interest groups.
• Raise awareness of dyspraxia in Ireland and create a better understanding of the difficulties children and parents face.
• Ensure adequate resources are available to support the needs of children with dyspraxia.
• Provide an information sharing and support network for parents.
• Improve diagnostic services.
• Organise meetings for parents and their children.
Requirements:
• Possess a diploma/degree in Speech and Language therapy or equivalent.
• Be eligible for membership of the IASLT.
• Ideally at least one year satisfactory post qualification experience.
• Qualifications obtained outside the Republic of Ireland will require validation by the Department of Health and Children.
• Experience with children and dyspraxia would be an advantage.
